My Newton connection
The first Newton in my pedigree is my 3x great grandmother Harriet Miller Newton, born 1814 in Cullercoats, Northumberland. Her father was my 4x great grandfather William Newton born in 1791 in Cullercoats. The Newton surname becomes a popular first name for several of Harriet’s Henderson descendants.
Are we connected to a famous John Newton?
My Henderson relatives have suggested that we may have a connection to John Newton of Amazing Grace fame. Although both families are seafaring folks I have found no evidence yet to verify this theory.
