My Murray connection

The Murrays have been a bit of a mystery to me until February 2012, when I was contacted by a 4th cousin once removed in Peterhead. The combination of his local knowledge and my access to various databases has been a great help in disentangling the dozens of George, James, William and Alexander names that have flourished in every branch of the clan.

Here are the Murrays in my pedigree:

• George Murray Turner, born George Murray in Coldstream in 1861 – great granda
• Barbara Murray, born in Alford, Aberdeenshire in 1841 – 2x great granny
• George Murray, born 1815 in Syre, Aberdeenshire – 3x great grandfather
• George Murray, born 1785 in Aberdeenshire – 4x great grandfather
• George Murray, born 1756 in Aberdeenshire – 5x great grandfather

The Murray list is growing rapidly and spreading geographically, so there will be lots more to write about them when I find time to digest all the newly found records.
