Where we came from
Many of my ancestors were Northumbrians, but have migrated round the county as their work dictated. From the border regions to South Northumberland as pits opened and closed. From the south to further north as agriculture changed and fishing fleets grew. Not all were Northumbrians though. The furthest north I have found so far was from Aberdeenshire. Heading south of the Tyne we have ancestors in Durham and Yorkshire and possibles in Lancashire, Cornwall, Staffordshire and Worcestershire. Migratory patterns often follow the mines: tin, iron, coal and the fishing fleets.
Where my family are now
I will not be publishing personal information about living members of my family in this blog. However, I do find it interesting to see where we have ended up. Just looking at the 96 years since my grandparents first became parents it is interesting to see that none of their descendants now live in Northumberland. You can find us in Southport, London, Glamorganshire, Norway, Italy, Denmark and Canada.
Where the extended family have spread to
Looking at the extended family takes us to America, Australia and New Zealand. Technology compensates for being spread to the winds. My brother and I have recently had the pleasure of meeting a new 2nd cousin who grew up just a couple of miles away from us. We were put in contact with each other through a common distant relative on the other side of the world.
My ancestral lines
I started with my grandparents’ lines (Crackett, Turner, Webb and Henderson) as a kick-off point to track my great grandparents and as a result added Cracket, Parkinson, Carr, Davis and Thornton to the list of direct lines. Going further back I added Tait, Bainbridge, Murray, Stavers, Oliver, Corbett, Reay, Newton, Hall, Miller, Young, Thompson, Hedley and more all in the pedigree. Under the My family menu you can find an up to date list of all surnames in my tree and I plan to organise under pages to My family to give easier navigation for pedigree and none-pedigree lines.
My Ancestor Chart
This is a listing of the ancestors I have traced. The list is structured using the Eytzinger method of numbering known as Ahnentafel.
